DIY: Souvenir Video Tagging

Surprise your guests by linking any object in your home to online videos! For example, in my home, if a guest picks up one of the pieces from my tea set and places it on an area of my coffee table, it plays a movie from my trip to South Korea on my LCD screen.

Flu Fighting (?) Suits

When I saw the announcement of a flu virus killing suit (PDF link) out of Japan I thought to myself: Finally! A techno fashion piece for guys. Take that Swine Flu! Upon further review, unfortunately, my enthusiasm was quickly dampered. These "Virus Clean Suits" by Haruyama Trading supposedly break down viruses when the titanium dioxide on their fabric reacts to light. That sounds good indeed until you realize:

Light on your feet

Johanna Hyrkas, a designer featured at IMU, a design collective that showcases works from young Finnish- and Helsinki designers has knitted a lighted carpet. There is not much information on the project, but it seems to be light rope that has wool knitted or crochet around it.

You can see more IMU designers here.

One of the projects featured in the NY Times article is the boxwood wall covering around my mounted LCD. We put a small hole into the sheetrock, (easily patched and painted if I move), and pulled wires down to the baseboard. The big screen is then nestled into a white garden of artificial boxwood.

Dos and Don'ts of Everyday Techno Fashion

I saw this post on Frisky about the NY Times article and noticed the comments about how bright my necklace is. I just had to let people know that I AGREE!

In the photo from the NY Times, it looks like I am wearing a super bright fantastic necklace, but in real life it just isn’t that intense. I make it brighter for events or PR, because well, it's pretty and the shadows casted are interesting.

For me, technology is about subtle hints and hues, not about a blinking ravers’ paradise on my body. Just because its electronic, doesn’t mean all rules of fashion should be thrown out. And, for those of us who love technology accents, we need to recognize that the fashion world is not comfortable with wearable light shows, unless they are on the runway. To help demonstrate this idea I have put together a short list of a glamour girls dos and don’ts with electronic clothing and accessories for everyday wear - stress on the word “everyday.”

NY Times Before & After

I shared my redecorated living room with the NY Times recently and am really happy with the results.

Before the transformation my living room didn’t have much of a spark. In fact, for months it looked like a space I just moved into, and lacked any personal style. As a designer, I just had to do something about it.
