Just a quick note: It is very possible to use insulated wire instead of thread in this project. The thread is good for sewing up the ribbon, but its exposed to the elements, touching the body, and has extra resistance you may not want.
To use a wire here, use a very tiny 24 - 26 gauge insulated stranded wire, zig zag sew it to the ribbon, and then solder it to the battery pack as directed.
